I cannot live without the sea. I have the sea inside me!
These are the words of Captain Remo. He skippers a fishing vessel that goes by the name ‘Fabio’ anchored in the port of Pescara, in Abruzzo, Italy.
He has been working as a fishing ships that leave the Port each morning and head out into the Adriatic waters, the Trawler, is the most common.
Trawling is a method of fishing that involves dragging a net through the water. Attached to the fishing net is a ‘Smack’ which is pulled along the sandy bottom of the sea.
It is a common technique among fisherman because it is extremey productive.
BUt, it comes with a cost and is deemed controversial as it disturbs the sea bed and indiscriminately catches everything in it’s path.
However, ask any seasoned veteran oh the sea and he’ll tell you that the nights are spent coiling and releasing nets, and of course, drinkink coffee.
My photos reflect my journey into their most fascinating lives. An experience that I will never forget.
